We're all keen writers to be on this here site and role playing all kinds of imaginative characters, but are we also keen readers? If you have a particular favourite, post it here and share with us all.

Favorite book, well, that's impossible for me to decide on. -.-
Though if I had to choose one right now, it'd have to be Oathbreakers by Mercedes Lackey. Tarma, Kethry, and Warrl are definately some of my favorite book characters, and make a really funny team together. Tarma is a warrior who's taken an oath to never love another (sexually), in return for goddess aid in some situations, prowess with all melee and ranged weapons, and other things. Kethry is a sorceress...'nuff said. Warrl...well, warrl is something known as a Kyree. Now, what a Kyree is, is this: Picture a four legged wolf...ok, now make that wolf at least three foot two inches at its shoulder, give it yellow eyes, no gender, intelligence to match that of a human, and then some, and give it a wit that is sharp. That's Warrl. The story is about a king who goes back on his word, and in the story, a kings word is his honor...especially since the thing the king gave his word on, had alot to do with his sister, who is Kethry, Tarma, and Warrl's mercenary captain. So, they go and capture him, get retribution for having her murdered...and do a few fun things in between. All in all...good book, I really love Mercedes Lackey's books.

Anne Rice; The Vampire Chronicles and Laurell K. Hamilton; Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter. These two are the best writers in my opinion. I mean, come on, they write about the supernatural, which is the best genre.
I also have to throw in the Harry Potter series, the only fantasy books I read, very well written.

Lord of the Rings, as it is the only book I am reading currently the only other is The Hobbit which is good until Tolkien kills of Smaug the Dragon in a very lame way, destroying a beast of a character with little description and in a cheap way, unrealistic ending, and boring after. LOTR is very good though, thus far I have read up to where Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli start off with Theoden (sp?) to fight Isengard, and I find nothing wrong to say about it so far.

Am I the only fan of the real books in this world? The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexander Dumas War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy Robinson Crusoe, Daniel Defoe 1984, George Orwell Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte Brave New World, Aldous Huxley A Clockwork Orange, Anthony Burgess Romance of the 3 Kingdoms (Obviously) Anything by the Bard, most notably Hamlet, Romeo + Juliet, Richard III, and Othello. And, perhaps not epic works, but I also love the Hannibal collection by Thomas Harris, A Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood, LOTR (of course), and I am Legend, by Richard Matheson. Thats my list anyway.. couldnt choose a favourite really. Check 'em out!

Hm... I'd have to say my all-time favorite book is Tithe, by Holly Black. I'm pretty sure it's the only book I've ever read over six times in a single week... It's a fantasy book based on the life of a 16 year old named Kaye, who ends up finding out she's a pixie. (There are evil fey (Unseelie Court), and good fey (Seelie Court), and such.) She and her mother at one point lived with her grandmother, but then her mom was in a band that travelled around, and there's a bunch of mumbo-jumbo associated with that - Such as how they end up moving back in with Kaye's grandmother (it was because her mother's boyfriend became homocidal). When this happens, Kaye meets up with her childhood friend Janet (who is later killed by a kelpie), as well as the rest of her group of friends. But, yeah. One night (after making a legless carousel horse rise off the ground and look very real to an observing male...), Kaye is walking back to her grandmother's house when she hears something in a forest, and she goes to check it out. It's then that she meets Roiben, an elven knight with silvery hair and a mysterious... Well, a mysterious everything. She rescues him from attacking faeries by calling upon a kelpie which he rides away on, and later learns he is one of the dark fey - Though, not by choice... I'm getting ahead of myself. >.> Anyways - She begins looking for "pretend" childhood friends, sprites, that she hadn't seen since she was young and moved away with her mother. When Kaye realizes she's a changeling, she finds them. It's then that they tell her they want her to pretend to be human - Since she, truly, is a pixie - so she can be used as the Tithe, which is a young, talented, beautiful girl who is sacrificed to bind the independant fey to the Seelie or Unseelie Court for seven years. But, since she is a pixie, she obviously is no mortal. There's a whole bunch of stuff that goes on after learning this - She's captured by the Unseelie Court, Roiben gives her his full name (which allows her to command him to do as she wishes, and he cannot refuse), and, yeah. I can't really go into details since it's been a while since I read it, sorry... At any rate, she commands Roiben to free her, and he ends up slaying the Unseelie Queen, and the two flee, along with the remaining two pixies, as one was killed earlier on. Roiben says he's leaving, but Kaye comands him to stay, and thus, he must - At least, until that night, since that was all Kaye requested. Hm... There's some other guy who takes over the Unseelie court, and captures Corny (Janet's brother) and stuff. Not only that, but the independant fey are free to bring trouble to the human world for the next seven years, and the guy who took over also knows Roiben's entire name. Um... Drawing a blank here. Anywho, after the big long gap of stuff that I can't remember, Kaye and Roiben kill the Unseelie King, and Roiben takes his place, which is a favorable thing by the Unseelie fey. Um. Yeah. Roiben and Kaye see eachother one last time, and I'm pretty sure that's how the book ends... So, to make a long summary short, the book dominates, and I'm definately looking forward to getting the sequal, Ironside. n_n

Big wall O text...anyway, it is quite hard for me to actually pick out a favorite author, considering the number of them I have...let alone a favorite book.
Various authors I like are Michael Crichton, Steven King, Richard Laymon, John Grisham, Dean Koontz, etc.
Various books are Congo, Wolves of the Calla (And the other Dark Tower books), The Watchers, Volle, The Smoke Thief, The Summons, Dark Demon, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and plenty more.
Any of you that do read some of the above will see that my tastes are very wide - from fantasy, to historical, to romance. Yes, I read romance, so sue me.
