A bit of a one for the specialists and military fans, but what's your favourite battle throughout time? What made it so great? Was it the commanders, the era, the tactics, or simply because it gave X a damn good ass kicking?

What the hell, let us kick this one off... One of my favorite battles, even if not an overly grand battle, or one where a heavily outnumbered force won, was The Battle of Chaeronea. It was Alexander The Great's first 'true' battle, working under his father Philip II of Macedon. While they were outnumbered by the Greeks (Only about 1,000 men, though), they did far more damage to the Greek armies than the Greeks did to them. During the battle, a powerful company of men fell as well, having stayed and faught while the entirety of the army was starting to flee, that was the The Sacred Band of Thebes. Of the three hundred man stong company, two hundred and fifty-four men died. During the battle, each member of the Sacred Band died next to their lover (If you didn't know, or are to lazy to click on the link - the Sacred Band of Thebes was composed entirely of 150 pairs of lovers, equalling 300 men. The reason for this was because While to lazy to go into full detail on the battle at the moment, the Greeks lost 1,200 men, and another two thousand were captured. Macedon's losses weren't recorded, and thus aren't known. It wasn't the greatest battle in time, but much like the Roman victory over Macedon, this battle showed that the old ways weren't as good as the new ways. Later, Rome would prove this again.

The Battle Of Britan (though it's more like a whole war on its own). Radar and people willing to die for their country, which stands just at their backs. A painful battle for both sides, thankfully more so for the Nazi's.

Battle of Cannae
Hannibal vs. Rome
40-50 thousand vs. 80-90 thousand
It was a slaughter, which it should not have been seeing as how he was outnumbered 2 to 1.
Not only was the fact that it was Rome, and he Pwned them, along with the lopsided numbers, but he fought on the frontlines personally. We know the generals of old chose to do that, ealier more than later, or in fact had too, so that morale could stay high. It is, was, pretty much the ultimate risk; fight alongside your men with high morale but risk dying, which would lead to a route anyway, or stay back with less morale but less chance at death.
Either way, when there are 90 thousand Romans coming for you, it takes some major balls/skills to stand your ground and then kick their asses!
