While his Deianeira was away collecting gold to help in the restoration of Babylon, Laorav had been a busy demon indeed. He went to the streets and rallied all of the beings together with the promises of future riches and prosperiety that the city would bring to them once the Queen returned.
"Think of it!"
Laorav spoke to a crowd that had gathered in interest of a united city.
"The city will be a safe place to live! The hunting of any species by another will be strictly forbidden inside the city walls. You, humans expecially, will be able to raise families in peace without the fear of a vampire attack. My vampire friends, do not fear, because anything outside the walls is fair game, just as it is now. Not only that, but with guaranteed safety inside the walls, many merchants will be able to move in, creating jobs, and providing us with the things we need. With more citizens, the more people we will have for an army. Just think! A city which has its own army can grow, and eventually conquor other cities, creating a kingdom. A safe haven! Our Queen Deianeira will ensure these things!"
Laorav knew he wouldn't be king, but as Deianeira's right hand man, he would have power. He would help her establish an army, and would lead it into battle. Once other cities were conquered, he would claim one as his own. He couldn't rule Babylon even if he wanted to, though his powers were stronger, he still feared Deianeira. Not only that, but he loved her as well. He never wanted it to come to a fight, so he would help his beloved retake her city, even though she didn't love him back. As long as he could be close to her, it was enough for him.
The crowd cheered at Laorav's speech, obviously excited at the prospect of riches and safety. Some helped in the restoration process, and others left in search of their families and friends to bring back to Babylon.
Laorav himself worked on the castle. He first lifted the spell that was cast upon it years previous. It was still dark and dreary, but the inside shined. The skeleltons and cobwebs were gone, whisked away to be hidden somewhere deep within the castle. Once it was nearly completed, the demon brought in a team of workers to add the finishing touches. The spell was only able to be lifted because Deianeira had come back to it. Had she not, it would not have worked, and would still have looked uninhabited, no matter how much work was put into it. Laorav marveled at the throne, which consisted of a black velvet material and pure silver framing all around it.
"Deianeira will be pleased."
On the outside, the people worked frantically, repairing houses, stores, barracks, and whatever needed to be fixing. The sun would never shine, but that didn't matter to the people. They only hoped what Laorav had said was true about the safety. It was something they were most concerned with. If Laorav was telling the truth...well, that was another story... Once Deianeira returned from her journey, the city would be ready for her to take under her control.
